Why Should an Athlete Use CBD?

Maybe you have no plans to earn a paycheck through athletics. However, whether your goals are to walk 30 minutes three times weekly or crush your next fitness competition, looking at elite athletes can shed insight into your exercise routine. What are the factors that have contributed to their success? Perhaps they use strategies that we can implement.

What does that have to do with cannabidiol or CBD? Read on to find out.

What differentiates world-class athletes from those who are average?

One word: recovery. Great athletes and those we call "talented" often have a superior ability to recover from hard workouts so they can go back out and push themselves again.

Even if you have no plans on becoming an elite athlete, you likely want to function at your best. In addition, you probably want to be able to stay active long-term as you age. Those who are lifelong athletes need to be able to recover well from workouts to avoid burnout and injury.

Athletic Recovery with CBD

When you have a tough workout, you break down your body. Recovery comes when your body repairs itself and becomes stronger than before. During recovery, your body can be inflamed and sore, and you may even feel lethargic.

When you recover well, your body utilizes its natural processes to rebuild itself. Some soreness is normal, but your body soon is just a bit stronger. Repeating that process over and over is what leads to fitness gains.

Poor recovery, however, sometimes leads to decreases in fitness. When your body does not recover well or becomes injured, you are unable to repeat the process that leads to fitness gains.

What contributes to poor recovery?

Excessive inflammation and body processes that are not operating optimally hinder the successful repair of tissue, bones and joints. An imperfect diet, stress, and poor sleep lead to this perfect storm.

In addition, as we age, the body's own processes fail to work as well as when we were younger. Recovery takes longer and longer. As a result, we find ourselves needing to take extra rest days or having an inability to work out as hard as we did previously. Some athletes slow down, fail to improve, or even stop exercising altogether.

Mammals, including humans, have a regulatory mechanism called the endo-cannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system modulates the immune system and inflammatory response. Many people find that their recovery system doesn't respond appropriately. An inappropriate inflammatory response is even implicated in stress-related diseases. In other words, the endocannabinoid system is a key factor in the signaling the body uses in the recovery process.

World-class professional athletes often have the luxury of schedules that minimize stress, allow for adequate sleep, and have support for a great diet. Though a healthy diet, getting 8 or more hours of restful sleep, and lowering stress are always good suggestions, it is not always possible to control those factors in our daily reality.

The everyday athlete may have kids or aging parents, a busy schedule,  and no time to cook healthy food every day. Getting proper sleep is difficult. Stress is the natural consequence. Everyday athletes can find themselves on the short end of the recovery stick. Injury and illness sometimes are the result of pushing too hard.

How does CBD Help?

Cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD, enhances anandamide signaling. Anandamide is one molecule that is part of the human body's own naturally-occuring cannabinoid system that exerts anti-inflammatory effects and has a powerful effect on immune cells

What does this mean? For someone who wants to stay active and healthy, yet has stressors that break down the body's recovery processes, using  naturally-occuring cannabinoids such as CBD may help to restore the recovery process to a more effective state.

In fact, that is what many users of CBD report. TuneUp's founder, Michelle Kyhn, uses CBD for marathon training and recovery. She had been attempting to run challenging marathon training schedules but often found herself burned out and injured. She used CBD to train for the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon, and was amazed at her ability to bounce back and feel good on 65 mile weeks at the age of 42.

Others have reported similar results. CBD appears to provide an edge that so many athletes seek in their recovery toolboxes.

Is CBD legal in athletic competition?

WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency, specifically allows Cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD, in competition. Currently, THC is still a banned substance with WADA, so our suggestion is that athletes use our CBD Isolate Formulation if they will be tested.

Why is TuneUP CBD the choice for athletes who won't stop?

After researching dosing and formulations, the founders of TuneUP wanted to simplify the selection of products geared towards the issues that athletes and active people face. The myriad of hemp products available with confusing dosing and questionable quality make the decision fraught with risk. Some products are offered in such low concentrations that they are unlikely to yield results. More, however, isn't necessarily better.

The concentration and formulation we chose is what we believe is most suitable for athletes who work hard but face problems in the recovery process. We wanted the products to be cost-effective and high-quality. Our products are all-natural and made with no fillers or flavorings. Third-party testing on each batch ensures potency and quality.

We hope you find TuneUP will help you stay active and see results in both your fitness and in the quality of your life.
